    A) This article provides a great spectrum of background information to build up to its main point. It touches on the fact that increased productivity has a negative effect on the environment and is depleting the amount of freshwater in China. However this article does not do the analysis for you.

    B) Yes, the economic connection of scarcity fits this article because the increased demand for energy makes freshwater more and more scarce. Because of this increased scarcity of water, China must reduce consumption of freshwater or find more energy alternatives.
